Field Of Gold, the European Champion three-year-old miler, has been retired from racing and will begin a new chapter at stud with Juddmonte in 2027.
The horse is set to make a full recovery from the setback involving a bacterial lung infection that kept him from his intended Group 1 targets this season.
In a statment issued on Sunday, Juddmonte said the colt will not be ready to return to top-level racing this year and so a decision has been taken to prepare him for his stud career.
Field Of Gold made an immediate impression as a juvenile, following a three-and-a-quarter-length maiden victory at Newmarket's July meeting, with a striking performance in the Group 3 Solario Stakes.
He began his three-year-old season with an impressive victory in the Group 3 Craven stakes before finishing an arguably unlucky second in the 2000 Guineas.
Field Of Gold was an emphatic winner of the Irish 2000 before putting in what was the defining performance of his career in the St James's Palace Stakes, where he had classic winners Ruling Court and Henri Matisse behind him.
That effort earned him an official rating of 126 and a Timeform rating of 132p, equalling Kingman's rating for the race.
His joint-trainer John Gosden said: “Field Of Gold combined speed, looks and class in bountiful measure. He possessed incredible acceleration and a superb action which he demonstrated in the St James’s Palace Stakes. A very powerful and well-balanced colt with a great temperament”.
Field Of Gold will stand alongside his sire Kingman at Juddmonte.
