WOOTTON BASSETT
SHARE SOLD
THE final share available in leading second season sire Wootton Bassett was sold for €120,000 to Hesmonds Stud on arqanaonline.com. Seventeen bidders competed for the share in the sire of brilliant three-year-old colt Almanzor. Nurlan Bizakov’s Hesmonds Stud is currently home to around 25 broodmares. The farm also bought the first share in Siyouni to be offered on arqanaonline.com for €355,000.
Stud manager Tony Fry commented: “We are very pleased to have bought into this exciting stallion. This is also a very fair price considering that Wootton Bassett will stand for at least €20,000 next year and the share includes two nominations.”
Wootton Bassett had only 17 foals in his first crop but they included two group performers, with his triple Group 1 winning son Almanzor now being rated 127, the highest European-trained horse of any age and over any distance.
SHARE IN LE HAVRE
AVAILABLE
ARQANAONLINE.com will offer a share in French champion sire elect Le Havre this week. The sale will start on Wednesday November 2nd at 3pm and run for 24 hours. The share gives the holder a right to two nominations each year.
The flagship sire at Haras de la Cauvinière has already produced two dual classic winners. His first crop included Avenir Certain who won the French 1000 Guineas and Oaks in 2014, only for the feat to be repeated this year by La Cressonniere who is still unbeaten in eight starts. These champions are among 17 group and listed winners by Le Havre, including Group 2 Prix Chaudenay scorer Auvrey, and triple Group 1 runner-up Suedois.
Having started off at stud at only €5,000, Le Havre saw his stud fee rise as a consequence of his outstanding results. He covered 189 mares in 2016 at €35,000, 112 of which had gained blacktype or produced a blacktype horse. His fertility rate is close to 90% every year. His covering fee for 2017 will be announced on Monday.
