THERE are 479 entries for the substantial Goffs February Mixed Sale and this total is 19 more than last year. This means that it has been necessary for Goffs to keep the size of this auction at two days, on Wednesday and Thursday, February 11th and 12th.
The February Sale offers buyers a really comprehensive choice, as it is a genuine mixture, with high quality flat race bloodstock mixed in with stoutly-bred National Hunt hopefuls.
The first day, the Wednesday, starts the sale with 222 yearlings, both flat and National Hunt. Then the Thursday begins with some two-year-olds and some horses in training and stores, but is mostly given over to breeding stock, comprising about 100 broodmares and a large number of fillies out of training.
Horses which have changed hands at this sale in recent years include Obviously, winner of the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile in the USA in 2013, who cost only €2,000, while the dam of champion two-year-old Toormore was sold here for just €7,000.
