THERE were some notable pinhooking successes during the week. The third lot into the ring on day one, and the second lot to sell, was Pier House Stud’s Invincible Spirit colt out of the stakes-placed Street Cry mare Sagami. Bought for €155,000 as a foal, he cost SackvilleDonald 500,000gns.
The Morrin’s farm also sold the fourth last lot to go through the ring on the opening day, and they hit the jackpot a second time. Their 325,000gns foal buy, a Frankel colt out of a stakes-placed half-sister to Golan, more than doubled in value to 700,000gns, catching the eye of M.V. Magnier who signed for him.
Shadwell bought Glenvale Stud’s son of Awtaad, a half-brother to the Australian Group 3 winner and Group 1 runner-up Vengeur Masque for 300,000gns, more than four times the colt’s foal price of 72,000gns. This was bettered at the opening session by Yeomanstown Stud selling their €70,000 Siyouni foal buy to Shadwell for a cool 400,000gns. The colt is from the family of French Derby winner Anabaa Blue.
On the final day of the sale Yeomanstown sold a colt by Sea The Stars out of the Group 2 winner Pollyanna to Stroud Coleman for 625,000gns, well ahead of the €260,000 he cost as a foal.
The first lot in the ring at 11am on Wednesday was Stauffenberg Bloodstock’s son of Siyouni and Richard Brown of Blandford Bloodstock gave 450,000gns for the colt who since his purchase last year has become a half-brother to the German Group 1 winner Danceteria. Philipp Stauffenberg paid €180,000 for him as a foal and the dam is a half-sister to Lope De Vega.
Phoenix Thoroughbreds gave 200,000gns for Baroda Stud’s Awtaad filly, bought as a foal for €64,000, before Ciaran Conroy’s Glenvale Stud struck gold again, this time seeing their €55,000 foal purchase, a filly by Lawman, rise to be valued at 525,000gns. Joseph O’Brien bought the filly whose half-brother has since become a listed winner.
A final big win in the pinhooking stakes was achieved on Thursday when Corduff Stud’s son of Sea The Stars and the Italian listed winner Pretty Diamond sold to Shadwell for 500,000gns, almost quadrupling his foal price of 130,000gns.
