THE Derby Sale at Fairyhouse celebrates its 42nd year in 2017 and is again scheduled for two days just before the end of June, with Part 2 of the sale on the third day.
As usual, all the 460 entries on the first two days (34 more than last year) are National Hunt stores, nearly all aged three years old, and the quality is exceptionally high.
Tattersalls Ireland again had plenty of winners at the 2017 Cheltenham Festival and the Grand National meeting soon afterwards. This year’s catalogue includes an own-brother to Weapon’s Amnesty, as well as a half-brother to Cue Card.
Although nearly all the 460 entries on the Wednesday and Thursday are geldings, almost 20% of the catalogue are fillies, and among those fillies are some of the best pedigrees, including an own-sister to Outlander.
Many of the leading National Hunt stallions are among the sires, including Presenting (28), Flemensfirth (43), Getaway (26), Gold Well (27), Oscar (17), Milan (30) and Stowaway (62).
All lots bought at the Derby Sale will be eligible for the €100,000 Tattersalls Ireland George Mernagh Memorial Sales Bumper, to be run at the Fairyhouse Easter Festival in 2018, and Irish Thoroughbred Marketing will contribute to the cost of flights for overseas buyers at this auction.
