TATTERSALLS’ Ascot August Sale concluded their summer sales season with improvements in turnover and median, while the average remained almost the same as last year. The aggregate grew by 31%, while the median advanced 12%. The clearance rate was up three points to 90%.

The leading pair of lots both came from the Godolphin consignment and were headed by Universal Effect, a three-year-old daughter of Universal who is out of two-time winning dam Saaboog.

The filly won over a mile and was placed again since the catalogue was printed and she sold to trainer Mark Loughnane for £38,000.

Minutes earlier Loughnane was underbidder on another Godolphin offering. This was Millions Memories, a winning three-year-old Zoffany gelding, and he was secured by Epsom-based trainer Laura Mongan for £35,000. Mongan trained the 2016 Group 1 St Leger winner Harbour Law.

Godolphin easily led the vendors table, selling 11 lots for an average of £12,491.

Amelia’s Dance finished second on her only start in a six-runner bumper at Southwell in May for Peter Fahey and the four-year-old daughter of Flemensfirth, consigned by Jamie Railton, was sold to Anthony Bromley of Highflyer Bloodstock for £30,000.

The filly is out of a half-sister to Mister McGoldrick, a Grade 2 winner of 15 races and placed in the Grade 1 Queen Mother Champion Chase. This sale came three months after Amelia’s Dance topped the June Sale at the same venue for £90,000.

David Simcock’s Trillium Place Stables sold the three-year-old gelding Vexed, a son of Charm Spirit, to TT Bloodstock for £20,000. The half-brother to Group 2 winner and Group 1 St Leger runner-up Kite Wood is still a maiden after five starts.

Matt Prior, head of Tattersalls Ascot Sales, summed up the day’s business: “Tattersalls Ascot Sales continue to make positive strides in the horses-in-training market, and this has been recognised by both vendors and purchasers alike here today.

“A clearance rate of 90% demonstrates the solid demand for both flat and National Hunt horses, with a strong representation of both domestic and overseas buyers.”
