TWO sires dominated proceedings at the latest Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale: Dark Angel and Kodiac. A total of 32 yearlings sold for £100,000 and represented a broad range of stallions.

Yeomanstown Stud’s flagbearer ruled on numbers. All 17 of his yearlings catalogued turned up for sale and all but two of them changed hands.

The 15 sold averaged £124,933 and ranged in price from the record-equalling £280,000 down to £36,000.

They sold to a wide range of purchasers, with Shadwell, Peter and Ross Doyle and BBA Ireland all signing for a pair each.

Seven of the Dark Angel yearlings sold for £100,000 or more and this feat was matched by Kodiac, who stands at Tally Ho Stud. Their aggregates were remarkably similar, but with 29 lots sold by Kodiac his average came in at £63,707.

catalogued

He had 34 lots catalogued, two of which missed their appointment with the auctioneers and three were unsold. Shadwell, Peter and Ross Doyle and SackvilleDonald were busy snapping up the Kodiacs.

Just two other sires had more than a single six-figure lot. Acclamation had six lots catalogued, one withdrawn and three lots sell.

They averaged £148,333 and his top-priced colt sold to The Hong Kong Jockey Club. Acclamation stands at Rathbarry Stud.

Oasis Dream, one of the Juddmonte team of stallions, had two yearlings in the sale, both fillies and they both sold well at £140,000 and £100,000.

The other sires with a lot selling for £100,000 or more were Bahamian Bounty, Dandy Man, Dawn Approach (first yearlings), Exceed And Excel, Farhh (first yearlings and his only entry), Fast Company, Footstepsinthesand, Havana Gold (first yearlings), Lethal Force (first yearlings), Shamardal (his only yearling catalogued), Sir Percy, Siyouni (only one catalogued), Swiss Spirit (first yearlings) and Zoffany.

top vendors

The top 10 vendors on aggregate included eight farms based in Ireland and this list of consigners were responsible for 35% of the total value of the sale.

Eight drafts of yearlings brought in £500,000 or more.

Tally Ho and Yeomanstown were in first and second position, the same as in 2015. They were followed by the two British consignors, Trickledown Stud and Highclere Stud.

The Thorman’s farm improved one positon from last year, while Highclere were new to the top 10. Last year Oaks Farm Stables were in third position.

Lynn Lodge and Grove were the only other studs in last year’s top 10 to remain on the table, the O’Leary’s farm moving up four positions while the Hollands improved from eighth to sixth.

Manister House, Cooneen, Baroda and Colbinstown, and Glenvale were all new to this year’s list.

buyers bench

With Shadwell Estate and Peter and Ross Doyle Bloodstock occupying first and second on the buyers’ bench, as they did last year, there were notable absences from this year’s table of John Ferguson and Tony Nerses. Last year they spent £980,000 and £625,000 respectively.

There were five newcomers to this year’s list, namely Amanda Skiffington, Blandford Bloodstock, Salcey Forest Stud, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Malek Al-Sabah, and Bobby O’Ryan for Rebel Racing.
