MOUNTAIN View Stud, owned by Rory and Barry Mahon, consigned a son of Shamardal on behalf of a syndicate of breeders that own the winning King’s Best mare Dehbanu and the yearling generated a tussle between Angus Gold and Patrick Cooper. Sheikh Hamdan’s man won the battle at 250,000gns for this three-parts brother to dual Group 3 winner Dubai Prince. It was just one of many high-profile purchases on the day – and during the week – by Shadwell Estate.

At the opening session they also paid 200,000gns for a son from the first crop of Society Rock and from the same family as the day’s best priced yearling. While the Shamardal was a great-grandson of Storming Home’s dam Try To Catch Me, the Society Rock is a grandson and he was purchased as a foal at Goffs last November for just €26,000. This was a remarkable pinhooking success for Pat and Breda Donworth of Torard House Stud in Co Limerick.

Another 200,000gns price tag for a Shadwell purchase was achieved when Cheveley Park Stud sold a son of Acclamation towards the end of the session. The colt is the first produce of the listed winner Ladyship, a daughter of Oasis Dream and the dual Group 1 winner Peeress. The latter had a Frankel son sell for 1,300,000gns in Book 1 the previous week.

There was strong demand all week for progeny by Iffraaj and his best on offer at Monday’s sale was a full-brother to the Group 2-placed two-year-old Mushaeakaat. He was bought as a foal at Goffs for €55,000 and this time sold from Kilminfoyle House Stud for 210,000gns to Roger Varian. Michael Fitzpatrick was the lucky pinhooker on this occasion, though he was to sell a more expensive yearling later in the sale.

Varian’s haul of yearlings also included a 200,000gns daughter of Nathaniel from Newsells Park Stud where the sire is based. This daughter of the stakes-placed two-year-old winner Elas Diamond is for Sheikh Mohammed Obaid for whom the majority of Varian’s purchases in recent weeks have been. Elas Diamond is a Danehill Dancer daughter of Ela Athena, runner-up in five Group/Grade 1 races and the dam of Doncaster Cup winner Pallasator. She was one of just a trio of fillies to realise 200,000gns or more. Michael Jarvis trained Ela Athena and Varian was his long-time assistant.

A Kodiac own-brother to last year’s stakes-winning juvenile Dhahmaan was the most expensive of two yearlings sold in Book 2 by Noel O’Callaghan’s Mountarmstrong Stud and one of 16 purchased by Blandford Bloodstock. It is understood he will race from John Gosden’s yard. He cost 170,000gns and this was the same price paid for Ballylinch Stud’s Dream Ahead daughter of Dookus. This half-sister to two stakes winners in US Law and 2016 juvenile Frankuus will ultimately become a broodmare at Cheveley Park Stud for whom she was bought.

This was one of three yearlings purchased by Cheveley Park during the week and these included the first lot in the ring at the sale, a half-sister to the stakes winning Galileo filly Dalkova. Consigned by New England Stud, this daughter of Mastercraftsman is out of a winning Marju half-sister to Group 1 winner Daliapour and she realised 165,000gns.

Clare Castle Stud sold a son of Mastercraftsman for 150,000gns and this half-brother to Many Colours was signed for by Peter and Ross Doyle Bloodstock.

Named Fantast and part of the Stauffenberg Bloodstock draft was the Sinndar own-brother to Group 2 Blandford Stakes winner Four Sins and Oliver St Lawrence Bloodstock had the final say for him at 165,000gns.

Two sons from the first crop of Camelot to shine on the day were The Castlebridge Consignment’s half-brother to group-placed Taexali, bought by Armando Duarte for 155,000gns, and Camas Park Stud’s half-brother to Group 3 winner Victoria Regina at 150,000gns. Stephen Hillen Bloodstock purchased him.
