LARGER than last year with 333 lots, this year’s Doncaster January Sales catalogue requires two days, on Tuesday and Wednesday, January 24th and 25th.
The auction starts with 142 horses in training, both flat and NH, then come 145 National Hunt yearlings (foals of 2016), and over 40 broodmares.
The vendors include Godolphin, Shadwell Stud, Mill House Stud, Goldford Stud, Trickledown Stud and many well-known trainers, including Dermot Weld, Paul Nicholls and Nicky Henderson. There will also be 15 National Hunt stallions available to view on the Wednesday.
In this first auction of 2017, Goffs UK Sales cover every aspect of flat and National Hunt racing and breeding, with entries including many winning horses in training on the flat and over jumps, as well as the yearlings and a number of broodmares and stores.
Grade 1 NH winners Ballyandy, Benefficient, Darlan, Riverside Theatre, The Liquidator and Wishfull Thinking have all been sold at the Doncaster January Sales in recent years. Prices up to £300,000 and £240,000 have been paid here for good flat performers ready to go jumping.
There will be two significant dispersals in the January Sale, including 14 horses offered by the executors of the late Graham Roach, among whose successes were two runnings of the Grade 1 Queen Mother Champion Chase with Viking Flagship.
There is also a draft of 17 horses from the Alnwick stables of trainer Victor Thompson, who is giving up his licence to concentrate on farming.
Goffs UK have two late entries, which do not yet have lot numbers. They are Chris’s Dream, a son of Mahler who has won at Boulta, Spirit Of Kayf, a son of Kayf and Tara who has won two of his three starts over hurdles.
