Records broken at Scandinavian yearling sale

THE second last lot at the Scandinavian Yearling Sale held in Denmark saw a new record price paid for a yearling.

This was the DKr 660,000 (€89,000) given by former French trainer Flemming Poulson for a colt by the Starborough stallion Appel Au Maitre out of a winning Diktat mare.

The dam is a half-sister to the Group 2 Prix Eugene Adam winner Harland and comes from the family of Moyglare Stud Stakes winner Preseli and Italian Derby winner Worthadd. He was consigned from Stutteri Hjortebo.

Earlier a son of Dabirsim, a half-brother to four winners, sold to Kjeldsbjerggaard Stables for DKr 620,000 (€83,000) and he was one of two significant sales by the same stud farm and to the same purchaser.

The other was a daughter of Arcano out of a winning half-sister to the dam of Scandinavian champion Hurricane Red. He sold for DKr 300,000 (€40,000).

Sir Percy leads the way in Spain

The expected sale topper, a Dawn Approach half-brother to the Irish Derby winner Trading Leather, was unsold at €110,000. He has been purchased as a foal for 70,000gns.
