THIS is the 39th edition of Europe’s oldest breeze-up auction, first held in 1977, and the catalogue contains 181 attractive lots (one less than last year), to be offered by Doncaster Bloodstock Sales at their new sales complex.
These two-year-olds will be sold on Thursday, April 23rd, starting at 10am, after all of them have breezed at Doncaster Racecourse on the Wednesday.
Henry Beeby, the managing director of Doncaster Bloodstock Sales, has reminded buyers that the success rate for Doncaster Breeze-Up graduates has consistently been better than its rivals. High class performers sold at this auction include Group 1 stars Dream Ahead, Paco Boy, Total Gallery and 1000 Guineas heroine Speciosa.
Last year’s sale produced a record price of £340,000, paid by Qatar Racing for an Exceed And Excel colt. Subsequently named Likely, he made a five-length winning debut within a month.
Many leading sires are represented in the catalogue, notably Acclamation, Shamardal, Cape Cross, Henrythenavigator, Exceed And Excel, Kodiac, Kyllachy, Lawman, Pivotal, Dark Angel, Mastercraftsman and Royal Applause, and there are also progeny by some American stars including Street Cry, Hard Spun and Scat Daddy.
