MYBOYCHARLIE’S half-sister to the recent Eddie Lynam-trained Group 2 winner Soffia set a new mark for a yearling at the Osarus Yearling Sale this week. Sold by Haras de Montaigu, the filly was the catalogue standout and she didn’t disappoint in looks either.
Following a prolonged duel between agent Nicolas de Watrigant of Mandore International and trainer Jean-Claude Rouget, it was the former who triumphed at €170,000 and the filly will be trained by Frederic Rossi.
The successful agent did not reveal the identity of the new owner, though he did say that the vendor’s would retain an interest.
The top lot led the way on day two of the sale, and the best lot at the opening session was another filly, this time a daughter of Bated Breath and the group-placed Monsun mare Anjella.
Ghislain Bozo bought the half-sister to the much touted Aramhes for a group of investors, though the agent was thwarted in his efforts to buy her half-brother for Japanese interests.
The filly will join the latest successful member of the Head family to embark on a training career, Christopher who is a son of Freddy.
Mandore International combined with AGV Karwin to pay €100,000 in a private transaction for a member of the first crop of Shalaa, a half-brother to no less than eight winners already. The colt has a Siyouni two-year-old half-brother in training in England who has yet to race.
Marc-Antoine Berghracht was the sale’s leading buyer, his 14 lots costing €455,000. Con Marnane was another who was busy, his 10 purchases setting him back €157,000.
With a lower clearance rate, the aggregate and average both fell back, though the median was unchanged.
