Offered from Jessica Harrington's Commonstown Racing Stables on behalf of owner Michael Buckley, the seven-year-old son of Milan captured the Grade A Aon Novice Chase at Punchestown, the most significant of his four career wins to date. A most consistent performer, he now moves to join Donald McCain's powerful yard. His dam was a prolific winner of seven races, all but one over fences.

The six-figure mark was passed a second time at the sale when Kieran McManus, acting for his father J.P., bid £105,000 for Aldopicgros, a commentator's nightmare, and this lot was sold by the hugely successful Million In Mind Partnership. The McManus clan will be hoping that the four-year-old French-bred son of Tirwanako can emulate another previous purchase from the vendors, Uxizandre, a Grade 1 winner at Aintree. Paul Nicholls trained Aldopicgros.

On the second day of trade it was a supplementary entry that managed to steal the headlines. Doktor Glaz, a huge son of Mount Nelson, won a Kelso bumper for trainer Rose Dobbin and he impressed agent Tom Malone who signed the purchase docket with Colin Tizzard at £100,000. A much improved clearance rate -- 87% this year compared to 71% a year earlier -- was a significant feature of the first two days and among the lots to sell well was Mor Brook. This dual 2014 point-to-point winner was sold by Philip Rowley to Kim Bailey for £82,000. He is a six-year-old son of Kayf Tara out of an Anshan mare who is related to Strong Promise, Sraid Padraig and Hangover.

Rowley bought Mor Brook for a shade more than £2,000 and he struck again later in the session when his supplementary entry Definite Future was snapped up by trainer Richard Lee for £80,000. This son of Definite Article is only five and was placed a few days before the sale in a bumper at Aintree.

Donald McCain was extremely active throughout the sale and another of his high-profile purchases was Duke Arcadio, winner of a point-to-point at Largy at the beginning of May on his only outing. This son of Arcadio, from the family of Harcon, is yet another by the sire to join McCain's yard.

SELECT SEASON

The select session of the sale on day two produced five of the top seven lots in the horses-in-training section and another of these is also making his way to Donald McCain. Frank Byrne's point-to-point winner Monksgrange was in the winners enclosure on his third start -- having fallen on his first two outings -- and the six-year-old son of Gold Well will race in the colours of Paul and Claire Rooney. They also bought Kauto Stone for £45,000 but he will go instead to Ben Pauling.

The horses-in-training section saw turnover up by 25%, the average advance 10% and the median rose by an impressive 38%. The 238 lots sold over the first two days were bought by 160 unique buyers. At the close of business on Wednesday Henry Beeby indicated that the select section of the sale would be developed further in future years.
