THE best price of the three-day Book 2 Sale came during the middle session. Michael Magill’s Bellewstown Farm in Co Meath has had some great sales in the past, but it has been a number of years since it made the headlines. This time they did so thanks to a son of Kodiac, half-brother to the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner and stallion Vale Of York whom they bred.

That Grade 1 winner is a son of Invincible Spirit, Kodiac’s three-parts brother and Irish National Stud stallion. This was a profitable mating as Kodiac was standing for €10,000 at the time of covering. John Ferguson won the bidding war for the colt at 380,000gns.

Some remarkable pinhooking successes have populated the sales in recent weeks and Michael Fitzpatrick of Kilminfoyle House had yet another when his 35,000gns foal purchase by Kyllachy turned into a 270,000gns Shadwell Estate purchase. Out of a stakes-winning two-year-old and half-brother to a stakes winner, the colt was one of the favourites of the week for Angus Gold. Shortly afterwards the Shadwell love affair with Kyllachy continued when Gold acquired a full-brother to the Group 2 winners Penitent and Supplicant from Cheveley Park for 260,000gns.

The Tsui Family bred and sold a Sea The Stars colt through Mount Coote Stud and Blandford Bloodstock’s Richard Brown snapped him up for 260,000gns. A May foal, he will join William Haggas. His dam Scarlet And Gold won in France and is a half-sister to the French Derby winner Le Havre.

Newsells Park Stud sold a son of Holy Roman Emperor to SackvilleDonald for 250,000gns. From the family of Groom Dancer and Falco, he was one of 23 yearlings on the agency’s purchase list. The lot before him through the ring was The Castlebridge Consignment’s son of Azamour, a half-brother to Group 3 winner Agent Murphy. He cost Roger Varian 230,000gns and will be the subject of an RTE Nationwide programme in the coming weeks.

Amanda Skiffington for MV Magnier and Paul Shanahan paid 240,000gns for a Fastnet Rock filly out of a half-sister to French classic and US Grade 1 winner Landseer sold from the Swinburn’s Genesis Green Stud. The Morrin brothers Ger and Brendan were keen bid spotters themselves as they sold a son of Reckless Abandon out of the group-placed Danetime mare May Day Queen to Rabbah Bloodstock for 200,000gnns. They bred the colt in partnership with Martinstown.

John Ferguson was busy again on the day and made a number of notable purchases. They included the session topper, as well as a daughter of Shamardal and sons of Iffraaj and Helmet. The filly was from The Castlebridge Consignment and was out of a winning half-sister to the French 1000 Guineas winner Elusive Wave.

Both of the colts in question were sold from Yeomanstown Stud and the Iffraaj is a half-brother to the Italian 2000 Guineas winner Hero Look. He cost 160,000gns. The Helmet colt is a half-brother to five winners, out of a half-sister to the Hong Kong champion Mensa and he had a price tag of 150,000gns. Yeomanstown also hit the target with a son of Lethal Force that cost Peter and Ross Doyle Bloodstock 160,000gns.

Jamie Railton acted as agent for the sale of a Lawman colt out of Moment Of Time. The dam is a stakes-placed granddaughter of the champion Time Charter and this is also the family of Moyglare Stud Stakes winner Cursory Glance. He sold for 155,000gns.
