A feature of the week was the popularity of Dandy Man’s progeny and they yielded an average of €24,641 which represented a near four fold return on his 2015 covering fee. Among many popular lots by the Mozart horse was this colt whose priced dwarfed any other lot offered through the first two days of the sale. This colt, whose dam is a half-sister to a couple of useful blacktype performers, was bought for resale by Paul McCartan.

For some time the progeny of the prolific and increasingly successful Kodiac have been a firm favourite of both foal and yearling buyers and that trend was in evidence once again. The Danehill horse was responsible for a quintet of six-figure transactions and the most expensive of these was this colt who topped the penultimate day of the of the sale. He is out of a winning half-sister to a remarkable six pattern race performers and will be reoffered next autumn.

Lot 1024 (f) Dark Angel ex Elshamms

Some seven years ago the Flannery family’s Esker Lodge Stud paid €30,000 for the Zafonic mare Elshamms at the November Sale and she since rewarded their faith. A number of her foals have sold well at this sale but the best was to come on Thursday with this Dark Angel filly, who Richard Knight purchased on behalf of a client who is likely to keep her to race. Elshamms has also proved her worth on the track where, remarkably, all 10 of her runners are winners.

He was one of seven members of Garswood’s first crop to come up for offer and became the most expensive when selling to agent James Mescall and Turkish owner Kemal Kurt. The colt is grandson of the top-class racemare Shiva and his dam, a placed daughter of Birdstone, was a canny purchase by Ringfort having been picked up for just 9,000gns in 2014.

This colt represents another first crop sire in Eddie Lynam’s superb sprinter and he will be among his stallion’s yearling offerings next autumn having been knocked down to Tally-Ho. His pedigree will be a familiar one to those in Ireland as his dam has already produced a Rochestown Stakes winner in Heart Of Fire as well Unsinkable, who was placed in a succession of premier handicaps in 2015 before switching to America where he is a winner this year.
