ALL 13 lots catalogued for the first Goffs UK Goodwood Sale were offered but just six of them changed hands. The mixed results did not disappoint Goffs UK managing director Tony William though, and afterwards he commented: “The results in the ring this evening clearly demonstrate there is an appetite for these specialist boutique sales and our top price of £400,000 certainly reinforces that.

“The Goodwood Sale adds to Goffs’ boutique offsite sales which already include the London Sale on the eve of Royal Ascot, the Aintree Sale, Punchestown Sale and the Champions Sale which is held on Irish Champions Weekend at Leopardstown. We would like to thank Goodwood for partnering in this sale, as well as our vendors and buyers, and we look forward to seeing it develop in the years to come.”

Among the lots that failed to sell were Marie’s Diamond at £675,000, Julio at £345,000, Malakeh at £325,000 and Learned Friend, in foal to Dark Angel, at £320,000.

Unsold at 290,000gns last December, the now four-year-old Dark Angel mare Perfect Angel traded this time for £400,000 to Ed Sackville of SackvilleDonald. In the meanwhile she has been covered by Oasis Dream and last weekend her own-sister Angel’s Hideaway won the Group 3 Princess Margaret Stakes.

Failing by a bid to match that price was the High Chaparral three-year-old gelding Curiosity and Mark McStay of Avenue Bloodstock secured him for Ngo Tai Tak at £390,000. The Hugo Palmer-trained winner will race from Lee Freedman’s stables in Hong Kong.

SUCCESSFUL BID

Jim Bolger’s late entry Sometimesadiamond, winner of a listed race at Naas on her most recent outing, will now race in the colours of Phoenix Thoroughbreds after Dermot Farrington’s bid of for the three-year-old daughter of Vocalised £220,000 proved successful.

China Horse Club will be using the Whitsbury Manor Stud stallion Showcasing after paying £190,000 for a lifetime breeding right in the sire who stood this year for £35,000. The sire of Group 1 winner Quiet Reflection won the Gimcrack Stakes at two.

Con Marnane’s maiden War Command two-year-old Flying Dragon moves from the yard of Matthew Palussiere to Richard Hannon after his sale for £175,000 to Ross Doyle. This was a massive return on the €35,000 he cost the Bansha House Stud owner as a yearling.

The only other lot to sell was a half-share in the five-year-old Cosmelli who may be Melbourne bound. David Mourad’s Import Racing in Sydney purchased the interest.
