THE top six lots at the Brightwells Ascot August Sale on Tuesday were consigned by Darley. A smaller catalogue than a year ago nonetheless saw a rise in all the key figures, in what may have been the last sale under the Brightwells banner.
Nigel Hawke is hoping that lightening strikes twice as he previously purchased the subsequent Triumph Hurdle winner Tiger Roll, by Authorized, from Darley. This time it was a three-year-old daughter of the Derby winner he acquired for £23,000. The maiden winner will embark now on a hurdling career.
Going further afield is the winning three-year-old Kodiac colt Stolen Hour and he will now head to Qatar following his purchase for £20,000 by Conrad Allen.
Trainer Stuart Williams bought two fillies from the Darley draft, giving £16,000 for the three-year-old Invincible Spirit filly Highest Quality and £13,000 for the year younger Discreet Cat filly World’s Greatest. The older filly was placed in May.
Tom Malone was successful in his efforts to buy the three-year-old Makfi filly Great Job, giving £12,000 for this half-sister to City Style and she is destined to race in Ireland. That price was matched by Mojawiz, a placed juvenile hurdling son of Dubawi, and he sold to Richard Venn Bloodstock.
