Michael Ross finds plenty to whet the appetite in the DBS Premier Yearling Sales catalogue

Four years ago Doncaster Bloodstock Sales changed the name of their St Leger Sales, which is now known as the Premier Yearling Sales, acknowledging the fact that this auction is nowadays held at the end of August, two weeks before the Doncaster St Leger race meeting.

This year’s Doncaster’s Premier Yearling Sales will be held at the DBS Sales Complex on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 26th and 27th. Bidding at Doncaster is nowadays in pounds sterling.

As usual, there are many entries from Ireland among the 502 candidates, and all yearlings sold at this auction and at the new Silver Sales, will be eligible for the DBS Premier Yearling Stakes, with a first prize of £125,000 and scheduled to be run at York in mid-August 2015.

Many of the lots on offer will be eligible for the new Plus 10 bonus scheme and further details will be available on the sales ground.

On the following day, Thursday, August 28th, DBS will stage their new Silver Yearling Sales, with another 137 quality entries. This replaces the St Leger Festival Sales, which used to be held two weeks later, early in September.

Managing director Henry Beeby, now also the chief executive of Goffs, has reminded buyers that Doncaster Bloodstock Sales are enjoying another very successful year in 2014, with many group race winners including Sole Power and Olympic Glory.

DBS are selling the yearlings in alphabetical order of their dams and they again expect to attract all the top buyers to the Premier Sales, which ends a few days before the start of the Keeneland September Sale.

The star-studded catalogue contains yearlings by many of the leading sires, among them Sea The Stars, Mastercraftsman, Pivotal, Royal Applause, Acclamation, Dutch Art, Kyllachy, Kodiac, Holy Roman Emperor, High Chaparral, Nayef, Lawman, Oasis Dream and American stars Leroidesanimaux and Hard Spun.
