SISKIN’S victory in the Group 1 Tattersalls Irish 2000 Guineas this year stands proud as the biggest 2020 win so far in the colours of Prince Khalid Abdullah. The colt, trained by Ger Lyons, is a great example of the breeding programme at Juddmonte.

Prince Khalid bred and races Siskin, and he did the same for his sire First Defence, his dam Bird Flown and her sire Oasis Dream, Siskin’s grandam Silver Star and her sire Zafonic. First Defence’s third dam was Prince Khalid’s blue hen mare, Toussaud.

Siskin is one of six European-trained stakes winners in 2020 for Prince Khalid, another of which, Heliac, is a stablemate of Siskin.

Last year Enable’s successes in the Group 1 Coral-Eclipse Stakes, QIPCO King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes and Darley Yorkshire Oaks contributed half of the tally of wins at the highest level for runners in Khalid Abdullah’s colours. Siskin announced his arrival with his Group 1 Keeneland Phoenix Stakes triumph, as did the filly Quadrilateral in the bet365 Fillies’ Mile. Meanwhile, the list was completed with another British classic win, Logician running out an easy winner of the St Leger. Quadrilateral and Logician are both by Frankel.

Earlier this month Tacitus won the Grade 2 Suburban Handicap, the Bill Mott-trained four-year-old son of Tapit’s third win at this level. Last year he competed with distinction in all three legs of the Triple Crown, running second in the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes and Grade 1 Travers Stakes, having finished third in the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby.
