THE Open Yearling and Horses in Training Sale will this year be conducted at Kill by Goffs from Tuesday, October 24th, to Thursday, October 26th, with the horses in training on the first day and the yearlings on the second and third days. These auctions serve a very useful purpose, just as the jumping programme is getting into full swing.

Goffs were delighted with the trade at their recent Orby and Sportsman’s Sales and they have assembled an interesting catalogue containing the much larger total of 480 well-bred yearlings and 148 horses in training, most of which have been in action during 2017 and many of which are already winners. There is a draft from the Aga Khan Studs.

Recent graduates from the Open Yearling Sale include Group 2 winner Custom Cut, a €5,800 purchase. Margot Did, who cost trainer Michael Bell only €16,000, went on to win the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York, while the 2013 Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp was won by Maarek.

Another success from this sale is Zabana, who won the Grade 1 Champion Novice Chase at the 2016 Punchestown Festival.
