Any disappointment felt when Kilcarn Stud sold a daughter of Canford Cliffs out of Queen Of Carthage for just €13,000 at last year’s Orby Sale will hopefully now be a distant memory as the two-year-old clocked up her second win from two starts at Thirsk recently. She holds an entry next for the Lowther Stakes.

Resold as a breeze up lot at Arqana for €55,000 in May, Lady Clair is the first foal of her unraced dam who is by Cape Cross, sire of Golden Horn. Queen Of Carthage was sold in foal to Canford Cliffs for 160,000gns at Tattersalls in 2012 and she is a daughter of the Group 1 Prix de l’Opera winner Satwa Queen who was also placed second in the same race. She sold as a mare out of training in 2007 for 3,400,000gns. Queen Of Carthage has a yearling filly by Acclamation.

Meanwhile, Canford Cliffs keeps piling on the winners and added another stakes winner to his haul when the filly Aktoria won the Listed Prix Six Perfections over seven furlongs at Deauville. Canford Cliffs stood for €12,500 at Coolmore this year.

Whiskey is sweet

What a loss the untimely death of Jeremy was to Denis Hickey in Garryrichard Stud. The sire had transferred there after standing at the Irish National Stud as a result of doing so well with his young hurdlers. He has also continued to show his ability to sire winners on the flat, and two-year-old winners also.

The Eddie Lynam trained Whiskey Sour is the latest juvenile winner for Jeremy and he was bred from the Sadler’s Wells mare Swizzle Stick. He is the first winner for his dam and well named to boot. Bred at Sonia and Anthony Rogers’ Airlie Stud, Whiskey Sour sold as a foal to Eddie O’Leary’s Lynn Lodge Stud for €16,000 and the Westmeath man turned a handy profit when selling him on to Sarah Lynam for £45,000 at the DBS Premier Yearling Sale.

The obvious attraction for the Lynam’s was that Swizzle Stick’s half-sister Viztoria won at up to Group 2 level for the stable. Swizzle Stick’s most recent produce is a colt foal by Sea The Stars.
