ALL smiles at Cork Summer Show were Bandon’s Patrick McCarthy from Meelin Stud after winning the two-year-old thoroughbred class. The horse was bred by Ringfort Stud and impressed judges Sean Burke and Patricia Hoey.

HOW do you recover after your first year as equine section secretary at your local show? Water sports on the River Shannon in Roosky as part of the annual school tour. That’s what Melissa Glynn fitted in on Tuesday after Athlone, where two more schoolteachers were equally busy. Both Colin Doyle and Mary Rothwell were leading entries in The Irish Field Breeders’ Championship with Irish Draught trainee judge Mary doing a flying costume change afterwards to join Gillian Devenney and Andrew Gardiner in that ring.
