CRUISING held a special place in the Irish Sport Horse studbook and in the hearts and minds of equestrian fans, not only for his own ability but his ability to sire good horses.
Cruising was by the Irish Draught stallion Sea Crest, out of the three-quarter bred mare Mullacrew and his two clones carry the exact same genes.
Cruising jumped at the world’s top level under Trevor Coyle, winning the Grand Prix in Aachen in 1999, in Dortmund in 1998, Lucerne in 1998, San Marino in 1996, Wolfsburg in 1996 and the World Cup qualifiers at Millstreet (1997, 1998) and Geneva in 1998. He finished second in the 1999 World Cup Final in Gothenburg, having never knocked a pole.
The stallion jumped on the winning Nations Cup teams in Dublin (1997), Rotterdam (1996), Calgary, Dublin, Aachen (all 1995) and Modena (1994).
The bloodlines of Cruising’s sire Sea Crest include Tara, dam sire of the renowned jumper stallion Clover Hill and the thoroughbred sire Artic Que. Sea Crest himself jumped to grade A level on the national circuit.
Cruising’s dam Mullacrew, by Nordlys, was an international jumper with the Irish Army’s Equitation School under John Ledingham, winning in Lucerne, Rome and Wembley.
Among Cruising’s many successful offspring are the 2012 USEF horse of the year Flexible, 2012 USEA Horse of the year Mr Medicott, Mr Cruise Control, Irish Olympic horse Electric Cruise, Grand Prix winner Mo Chroi, Irish team horse World Cruise, Nations Cup winner Larkhill Cruiser and World Cup horse Sails Away.
