THE young boy tragically killed in a pony and trap accident last Friday was laid to rest on Tuesday afternoon.
Sean Doyle (12), from Melrose Avenue in Clondalkin, was fatally injured when the pony and trap he was travelling on collided with a truck in a freak accident in Clondalkin last Friday afternoon.
There were scenes of grief in the parish of Bawnogue when a horse-drawn carriage carrying the boy’s white coffin was brought to the Church of the Transfiguration on Tuesday. Sean, who was nicknamed ‘Smiley’ due to his happy-go-lucky nature, had been travelling on the pony and trap with two other young boys, who were uninjured in the accident, when the pony was spooked and bolted, resulting in a collision with the truck. The trap overturned on the road and Doyle was pronounced dead at the scene.
More than 2,000 friends, extended family and neighbours of the youngster marched through the streets of Clondalkin on Sunday evening last to show their support for the family following the 12-year-old’s death.
Members of the local community in Clondalkin are believed to have raised €20,000 to help the Doyle family with funeral and other costs.
