GAIN Horse Feeds and Horse Sport Ireland hosted a lunch at Carton House in Co Kildare on Monday to celebrate the success of the Gain Horse Feeds Young Rider Show Jumping squad who won the team gold medal at the 2016 European Championships which were held at the Green Glens arena in Millstreet, Co Cork.

This was the first time that Ireland’s Young Riders (U21) secured team gold at a European Championships.

The Irish squad of Michael G. Duffy, Matt Garrigan, Gavin Harley, Max O’Reilly Hyland and Jenny Rankin, finished the two-round contest on a total of just five faults under the guidance of team manager John Ledingham, to come out on top against the top 10 teams from around Europe.

FANTASTIC RIDERS

Horse Sport Ireland interim CEO James Kennedy said: “Ireland is the land of the horse and has fantastic riders at all levels. This was further highlighted last year with the Gain Horse Feeds Young Rider team winning the European Championship gold medal.

“This adds to the hugely impressive list of medals that Irish Pony, Children On Horses (U14) and Junior (U18) riders have won in recent years.

“I would particularly like to thank our team sponsors Glanbia and Gain Horse Feeds for their wonderful support of our underage athletes.”
