CARLOW event rider Sam Watson continues to be the highest ranked Irish rider in the FEI world rankings, despite falling one place to 11th. The four members of the 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games silver medal-winning team remain inside the top 33.

The biggest Irish mover this month is 22-year-old Kildare-based Cathal Daniels who, following two top-10 finishes at Le Lion d’Angers, has climbed eight places from 22nd to 14th. Individual WEG silver medallist Padraig McCarthy has slipped two places to 19th, while teammate Sarah Ennis is up two places to 33rd.

The only other rider inside the top 100 is Austin O’Connor, who rose four places to 81st. World champion Ros Canter had an opportunity to take the world number one spot from her compatriot Oliver Townend at Pau CCI4* last weekend until unravelling in the show jumping phase. New Zealand’s Tim Price continues to occupy third place.

In show jumping, Ireland lead the way alongside the USA and Belgium with seven riders in the top 50. Highest placed of those is Cork’s Shane Sweetnam who has fallen six places to 26th (from 20th), just ahead of Darragh Kenny in 27th (24th), Daniel Coyle in 28th (31st) and Bertram Allen in 29th (26th).

Denis Lynch has also dropped two places to 39th place, while Cameron Hanley maintains 47th place. Richie Moloney rounds out the top 50 in 50th place.

Dutch show jumper Harrie Smolders maintains the top spot for the seventh consecutive month. WEG bronze medallist Steve Guerdat of Switzerland has jumped up seven places to number two, ahead of Henrik von Eckermann.

In dressage, America’s Laura Graves and Verdades became world number one last month and have held on to that place from Germany’s Isabell Werth in second (Weihegold OLD), third (Emilio 107)and fourth (Bella Rose) places.
