SHOW JUMPING Ireland’s (SJI) annual general meeting, scheduled for Monday, November 6th, has been postponed after an outstanding issue came to light, SJI national chairman Ray Buchanan confirmed to The Irish Field yesterday (Friday).

A letter sent out to members this week confirmed that the AGM would be postponed until a later date.

A meeting of the SJI Executive Committee is now due to take place on Monday in a bid to try and resolve the outstanding financial issues, which were dismissed as a “storm in a teacup” in some SJI quarters.

The outstanding issue involved is believed to be a sum of money, up to €15,000, which is at the centre of the ‘missing’ allegations concerning the Connacht region’s accounts. However, a number of reliable sources told this newspaper that there is actually no missing money in the Connacht region at all.

Sources said that confusion apparently arose about finances related to a standalone show held in the Connacht region and what account these funds should have been put into it.

It is believed that there is no financial irregularities arising from the standalone event either.

Nevertheless, when the issue arose last week, it triggered much concern, leading SJI officials to feel the AGM must be postponed and all issues settled satisfactorily before the AGM could be held.

“The AGM was cancelled due to an outstanding issue that was discovered. There may be another meeting on Monday instead,” Buchanan confirmed yesterday.

When asked about any alleged discrepancy in accounts in the Connacht region or any other region, he replied: “I can’t confirm anything about any region.”

He added: “As I understand the auditors are happy – I don’t deal directly with them. I am not in a position to clarify anything further.”
