Passing of legendary ponies

THE popular Connemara Pony stallion Templebready Fear Bui passed away this week at the age of 31. Bred by Carole Seigne and bought by Corkman Dan O’Brien as a foal, the dun stallion has produced numerous winning show jumping and eventing ponies.

One of the more well known performers in recent times is Millridge Buachaill Bui, the Connemara gelding who was part of the bronze medal-winning Irish team at the European Eventing Championships for Ponies last August under Kildare’s Zara Nelson.

Magic Shadow

Another legendary pony to pass away this week was Bertram Allen’s wonderful show jumping pony Magic Shadow who died at Allen’s German stable on Wednesday at the age of 28. The 12.2hh Magic Shadow was passed through the Allen family when ridden by Bertram, Grace, Lucy and Harry and before that he was partnered by international show jumper Darragh Kenny.

A 10-year-old Bertram Allen was first pictured in The Irish Field in 2005 aboard Magic Shadow.
