No quarantine for Olympics attendees

ATHLETES or other attendees at this summer’s Tokyo Olympic Games will not be required to be vaccinated or to quarantine on arrival in Japan, however, severe restrictions on movement will apply.

This information was outlined in one of the first Olympic Playbooks released by the IOC (International Olympic Committee) this week, directed at international federations. All attendees will be required to test negative for Covid-19 within 72 horses of their departure for Japan, and get another test on arrival and will then be allowed to train, avoiding the 14-day self-isolation currently mandatory in Japan.

But additional rules will apply on the first 14 days, says the Playbook. You must only leave your accommodation to go to official Games venues and limited additional locations, and you will not be allowed to visit tourist areas, shops, restaurants, bars or gyms. Public transport is also prohibited, unless given permission.

There will be temperature checks all at venues and masks must be worn at all times indoors, except when eating, drinking or sleeping. Further Playbooks will be released in the coming week with more information.
