Goresbridge monthly sale

GORESBRIDGE will not be holding their usual monthly sale, scheduled for today (Saturday), due to a lack of entries. The next monthly sale at Goresbridge is scheduled for Saturday, June 3rd. See page A65 for Sally Parkyn’s preview on next week’s Goresbridge Sale (May 9th-10th).

Curragh course

APPLICATIONS are now being accepted for the Curragh Equine Studies course which takes place from September 2017 to May 2018. This is a full-time FETAC/QQI, Equine Breeding and Horsemanship Level 5 and Level 6 course.

Successful graduates from this course are continually sought after for employment in a diverse range of positions within the industry, or may progress to Higher Education courses.

Broodmare class

THE Munster Association of the Welsh Pony and Cob Society was set up to help promote ponies in Ireland and this year, in conjunction with Midleton show, the Association is running a Broodmare class with €1,000 in prize money.

The class is for mares in foal, mares with a foal at foot, or potential broodmare three-year-olds and upwards (this was not included in the catalogue), not exceeding 148cms. Connemaras are excluded. Ed Prosser will be judging this broodmare class and the Welsh classes. Potential class sponsors can contact Jerry Moloney at 086- 2030667 by Thursday, May 11th, for inclusion in the catalogue. Entries must also be made to Midleton show by next Thursday. No entries on the day.

AIRC squad

THE International Affairs Committee of the Association of Irish Riding Clubs (AIRC) has confirmed that Ross House Riding Club will represent the Association at the World Club Tournament Open de France Generali from July 25th-27th.

The Cavan-based club will travel to the French Federation Parc for the four-day tournament which is a friendly international competition for riding clubs and schools from all over the world.

The Irish team includes Stephanie Fitzpatrick, Mary Govern, Lorraine McCannon and Lisa Noble, while the non-travelling reserves are Paula Briody and Jimmy Griffith. They will be riding hired horses at the tournament.

COLONEL William Harvey-Kelly MBE of the Irish Guards, who died aged 91 in 2015, late of Clonhugh, Multyfarnham, Co Westmeath, and Joristown Lodge, Raharney, Co Westmeath, was a very keen hunting enthusiast and a fomer joint-master of the Westmeath Foxhounds. Matthews Auctioneers, Oldcastle, are conducting a house auction at Joristown Lodge on Sunday, May 14th, commencing at 1pm of over 750 Lots, viewing from next Friday, May 12th, telephone 049 8550055.

Strzegom Horse Trials

STRZEGOM Horse Trials, the biggest eventing show in Poland, will welcome 270 horses and riders from 18 countries from Wednesday, May 17th to Sunday, May 21st where the first leg of the FEI Nations Cup eventing series will be contested.

Top riders include German’s Sandra Auffarth, Andreas Dibowski, Belgian’s Karin Donckers and Sweden’s Linda Algotsson.
