Nations Cup series jeopardised as St Gallen is the latest Covid-19 cancellation

THE Longines FEI Nations Cup series may be in jeopardy after the first three rounds of this year’s Longines FEI Nations Cup series have now been cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions.

News of the cancellation of the CSIO5* St Gallen, Switzerland, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, was announced yesterday (Friday). Due to take place from May 21-24th and host the second leg of the Longines FEI Nations Cup series, the organising committee were hoping to get a new date for the show later in the summer, but that has not been possible.

“Because we are part of the Nations Cup series, we didn’t want to cancel our event without all the alternatives that also resulted from the cancellation of the summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, to have conclusively checked.

“Unfortunately, there are too many uncertainties and risks, so we now have to cancel this year’s edition,” president Nayla Stössel said.

St Gallen is the third casualty of the seven-leg Division 1 league, with La Baule (May 13th-17th) and Rotterdam (June 18th-21st) already cancelled.

All three shows were part of Ireland’s points-scoring legs in the top series.

The other legs are due to take place in Sopot, Poland (June 11th-14th), Falsterbo, Sweden (July 9th-12th), Dublin, Ireland (July 15th-19th) and Hickstead, England, in July (23rd-26th).
