Sire rankings

RAMIRO B’s Irish-born crops, including Cooley SRS (see A62) see the Harthill Stud stallion in second place in the just-released World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses event sire rankings, led by the Holsteiner sire Contendro.

Six Irish-based stallions – Master Imp (4th), Ricardo Z (6th), Puissance (7th), Ghareeb (8th), Courage (9th) and Ard VDL Douglas (10th) round off the top-10. Diamant De Semilly and De Niro are the number one show jumping and dressage sires.

ISPCA vacancy

THE search is on for a top class equestrian person to fill the role of equine centre manager at the ISPCA’s premises in Mallow, Co Cork. This is a permanent, full-time position for a suitable person doing exciting, worthy work with the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Nabab de Rêve dies

ONE of the most famous show jumping stallions in the world, Nabab de Rêve, passed away at the end of October aged 25. The brown Quidam de Revel-son enjoyed his last days in the fields.

Nabab de Rêve excelled in both sport and breeding. Under Philippe Le Jeune, he jumped to victory during the 2002 World Equestrian Games in Vejer de la Frontera, Spain. The stallion was awarded Horse of the Year for the sBs Studbook in 2002 and in 2010 was named as BWP (Belgian Warmbred Horse) Ambassador.

He produced some of the most famous show jumpers including Vigo d’Arsouilles, Valentina van t Heike and Walnut de Muze.
