Waterford Breeders Show

THE Waterford Sport Horse Breeders Group are hosting their Annual Performance Show on Friday, September 8th next at Ballinamona Equestrian Centre, Co Waterford.

Founded in 2009, the Waterford Sports Horse Group is made up of breeders and producers whose core focus is on performance-based breeding programmes.

John Walsh of the Waterford Breeders Group said: “It is a unique show which includes a three-year-old performance horse class and our very special Performance foal class.”

All are welcome to attend. The class starts at 3pm with the three-year-olds followed by the Performance-bred foal class. For catalogues, please email waterfordshbg@gmail.com

Ballinasloe cancelled

THIS year’s Ballinasloe Agricultural Show, which was scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 23rd, has been cancelled.

The four Irish Shows Association All Ireland finals for Irish Draught colt and filly foals, Connemara filly and donkey and mare championships will still go ahead that day in Ballinasloe Showgrounds.

Another All Ireland final for sport horse colt foals had moved this year from Ballinasloe to the rescheduled Clarecastle Show, which now takes place on Sunday, September 17th.

Irish wins

IRISH show jumpers picked up wins across the globe this week.

Dermott Lennon got off to a fantastic start at the five-star Nations Cup show in Gijon, winning Wednesday’s two big classes. He got off the mark in the 1.40m with the Irish Sport Horse Gelvins Touch (Touchdown x Diamond Lad) and followed that with a win in the 1.50m with Rebecca McGoldrick’s Fleur IV.

Across the Atlantic, Cork’s Shane Sweetnam won Wednesday’s opening 1.45m class at the Hampton Classic Horse Show in America with Indra Van De Oude Heihoef.

In Canada, Galway’s Andrew Bourns won the three-star welcome class at the Angelstone Tournament with Ninparo.

Mountbellew Show

THE 113th Mountbellew Agricultural Show takes place on Saturday, September 16th in the grounds of Mountbellew Agricultural College.

The Traditional Irish Sport Horse Foal All Ireland Championship is part of the HSI National Showing Championship Series.

The championship results in a champion filly and champion colt who go head to head to compete for the coveted All Ireland Traditional Irish Sport Horse Foal title with a generous prize fund of €2,500.

The Warmblood Foal All Ireland Championship is for those foals who have one or both registered warmblood parents. From 16 qualifiers, foals will come forward for judging with a prize fund of €1,000 on offer.

Ridden horse classes include hunter, cob, Irish Draughts and side saddle as well as sections for miniature horses, Connemara, Irish Draughts, sport horses, half-bred, farm broodmares and foals.
