€300 cash prize

DO not miss the Kildare Foxhounds’ Hunter Trials at Punchestown racecourse on Sunday, March 18th. This year there is a special €300 cash prize for the winner of the open individual competition.

The courses will be open to walk from 12pm on Saturday, March 17th. Entries open on the day at 8.30am and competition begins at 9.30am.

Running order: Open Individuals; Open Pairs; Side Saddle Class (Over Novice Course); Novice Pairs and Novice Individuals.

IPS Show

MARYVILLE Equestrian Centre will host the Cork IPS Area Annual Show on Sunday, April 1st next. All welcome. Over 60 classes from working hunter to Mountain & Moorland, Ridden Show pony and Show Hunter classes, junior side saddle, lead reins, and in-hand young stock classes, to include a HSI champion of champions qualifier. There will also be a ridden pony class suitable for riders with special needs. UK judges Daniel Parks and Karl Morris to join Peter Molloy.

All classes open to IPS and non IPS members. Non-IPS members pay €5 day membership with entry fees. Pre-entries advisable at €10 per class, entries on the day €15.

World rankings

SIX Irish show jumpers feature in the top 50 of the Longines FEI Rankings this month, with 22-year-old Bertram Allen coming in highest in 24th place. Cian O’Connor and Denis Lynch are just behind him in 25th and 26th respectively, with Shane Sweetnam at 34. Co Derry’s Daniel Coyle, who won a five-star competition in Florida on Wednesday, having jumped another five places to 41st. Shane Breen closes out the top 50 in 48th place. Kent Farrington remains at number one but the American is currently side-lined with a broken leg after a fall in Florida.

Horseware WEG clothing suppliers

HORSEWARE has been announced as the official equestrian and clothing supplier to the 2018 World Equestrian Games at Tryon International Equestrian Centre from September 11th-23rd. Horseware will produce the uniforms for all WEG staff and volunteers, and the presentation coolers for horses.
