injury update
JONTY Evans is beginning to show early signs in regaining consciousness but remains in a very serious condition with an indefinite recovery time.
“Jonty remains in a very serious but stable condition and has recently shown some early signs of progress in regaining consciousness. However, he remains very seriously ill having suffered a significant brain injury in his fall and any recovery will take an indefinite period of time,” a statement from his family read.
Young Irish eventer Susie Berry, who is based in Britain with Piggy French, will take over the ride on three of Jonty’s horses while he continues to recover. She will ride Nick and Helen Caton’s Ringwood LB, John The Bull and Monbeg by Design.
Falsterbo Grand Prix for Twomey
CO Cork’s Billy Twomey scored a sensational win in the five-star €200,000 Grand Prix of Falsterbo, Sweden, yesterday afternoon. Riding Kimba Flamenco, he became the first Irish person to win the class since Gerry Mullins. He beat 11 others in the jump-off to claim victory, his third in 24 hours at the venue. Co Louth’s Mark McAuley finished in fifth place with Jasco V. Bisschop after posting the fastest time but with an unfortunate four faults.
Earlier in the day, Twomey won the derby qualifier with the Irish Sport Horse Ardcoloum Duke. That result followed another victory for the pair on the opening day.
Holly Woodhead joins River Lodge
BRITISH event rider Holly Woodhead has taken up a position riding for Michelle Kenny and Rafael Sanctuary’s River Lodge Equestrian in Wexford. The move means Woodhead has given up the ride of the Parkfield breeding horses, include the very promising Parkfield Quintessential, who won at Tyrella in April.
Tallow Show postponed
TALLOW Show, which was to take place Thursday, July 19th 2018, has been postponed until further notice due to weather conditions.
Warrington show date change
THE final of the summer show jumping league at Warrington will now take place on the 21st of July and not the 28th of July as previously advertised.
There will be no show on the 28th.
Kilmacanogue Show date
THE 45th annual Kilmacanogue and District Horse Show will be held on Saturday, July 28th, at Monastery Cross, Enniskerry, Co Wicklow, starting at 10am sharp.
Luc Musette RIP
INTERNATIONAL course designer Luc Musette has passed away following a long illness. Musette built courses at many of the world’s top shows. He, along with his brother John Paul, also ran the family equestrian centre in Belgium. Both Musette brothers have a strong connection with Ireland having bought and sold many horses here. Luc was the course designer at the 30th Owners Pony and Young Rider charity show in Millstreet.
