DSPCA probe into dumped horse

THERE was outrage on social media after images of a dead horse, dumped outside a gateway on the busy Dublin to Ashbourne road, were circulated amid an investigation by the DSPCA into the incident.

“The horse appears to have died before it was dumped there. This is a disgusting way to treat any animal and we are looking for information that may help us to trace the owner. Sadly the horse was not microchipped. The body of the horse has been taken away. Anyone with information can you please email inspectors@dspca.ie,” said a DSPCA statement on the matter.

In another disturbing incident, circulating footage of a donkey being repeatedly slapped by a youth leading him on a Ballyfermot street in the capital, claimed the donkey was being raffled off – for the second time – with tickets as low as €5. The donkey is understood to now be in the care of a rescue centre.

Passports issue

THE committee of The Irish Association of Welsh Pony & Cob Society posted this week that following the UK’s departure from the EU, the Society is unable to legally produce passports for Welsh Ponies and Cobs domiciled in EU member state countries.

The Society said it has been in constant discussion with the Welsh Government as the passport legislator, to look at ways to enable the continuation of registering and recording animals in the Welsh Stud book who are not based or bred in the UK.

In the meantime, breeders in EU countries were advised to passport their Welsh ponies, Cobs and Partbreds with the daughter societies in their country of origin.
