Fun run

THE Annual Monasterboice Fun Run will take place on Sunday, January 6th. Run in conjuction with the Louth Hunt, this year’s event will start at 1pm from Piperstown Equestrian Centre, near Drogheda.

All riders are welcome and the cap is €30 for adults and €20 for children. There will be three groups catered for: open, intermediate and happy hackers.

There is a way around every obstacle. All proceeds go towards the 7th Louth Costal Scout Group.

MULLINGAR Equestrian Centre is hosting its Christmas Show on Sunday, December 30th from 10.30am. Their New Year Derby Show is on Sunday, January 6th.

Vincent Ryan RIP

THE death took place on St Stephen’s Day of Vincent Ryan of Loughkent House, Cashel, Co Tipperary. Predeceased by his sister Isabel, he is survived by his wife Clare, brother Cyril and extended family and friends. The funeral is today (Saturday) to the Church of Our Lady Queen, New Inn, Cashel, at 11.30am with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Sad loss of Eileen Battersby RIP

THE death took place on Sunday, December 23rd of author Eileen Battersby. The late literary correspondent of The Irish Times sadly passed away after being involved in a car accident in Co Meath. Her daughter Nadia survived the single vehicle crash. Eileen was a passionate lover of horses, dogs and cats and will be sadly missed. No funeral arrangements had been posted by time of going to press yesterday.

Frances Geddes RIP

THE death took place on Christmas Eve of Frances Geddes, formerly of Santry Dublin 9 and Co Leitrim, in the care of the staff of St Agnes’ Ward in the Mater Hospital. She was the mother of sons Liam and Fergus and daughter Tina, predeceased by her husband Patrick and daughter Pamela. The Removal is today (Saturday) to the Our Lady of Victories Church, Ballymun Road, arrived at 9.50am with the funeral Mass at 10am and burial in Glasnevin Cemetery.

David Foster Ball

TICKETS are now available for the David Foster Injured Riders’ Fund Ball which will be held on Saturday, February 16th at the Johnstown Hotel and Spa, Enfield, Co Meath. The evening starts with a champagne reception, great fun and food with dancing into the small hours. Tickets are €80 if purchased online (www.plainsailing.com/club/david) or through the Eventing Ireland website or they are available on the night for €90 each.

Reynolds fifth

KILDARE’s Judy Reynolds took fifth place in the Belgian World Cup Grand Prix with the Joe and Kathleen Reynolds-owned gelding Vancouver K. The duo scored a hugely impressive fifth-place finish on their return to action in Friday’s FEI Dressage World Cup Grand Prix at Mechelen.

McAuley placed

AMY McAuley (25) placed 13th in the Dubai CEI2*120 with Valinor Park Gadres, on December 13th last.
