AS the prospect of a no-deal Brexit looms, Horse Sport Ireland is hosting a free information evening for all sport horse industry stakeholders on Monday, October 14th at Palmerstown House Hotel, Co Kildare.

If this scenario comes to pass, people will have to consider additional customs, VAT, tariffs, health and transport requirements. As it stands, the UK is set to leave the European Union on October 31st.

The panel of speakers for the HSI information evening features Conal MacCoille of Davy who will highlight the overall economic impact of a no-deal Brexit which could push the country into a recession. Michael McGill, a former official of the Revenue Commissioners, will take attendees through the customs and tariff difficulties that the sector can expect to encounter, while Marion Lee of Grant Thornton will discuss the indirect taxation consequences. To conclude the event, Catherine Lawler of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine will present on the additional health and transport burdens.

All welcome

“A no-deal Brexit scenario is something that will have far reaching consequences for the Sport Horse Industry and I would encourage all stakeholders to attend our seminar if they can. This is a free event and a really good opportunity for people in the sector to discuss the implications of a ‘No-Deal’ Brexit and how it could affect the Sport Horse Industry in Ireland,” said CEO of Horse Sport Ireland Ronan Murphy.

The seminar will take place in the High Chaparral Suite in the Clubhouse at Palmerstown House Hotel on Monday, October 14th with registration from 6pm and proceedings getting underway at 7pm.
