HORSE Sport Ireland announced that Australian international event rider Andrew Hoy has been added to the line-up for the 2017 HSI National Coaching and Breeding Conference.

The one-day event will be held at Cavan Equestrian Centre on Tuesday, November 28th next, starting at 9am.

Hoy has won four Olympic medals as well as four World Championship medals in a glittering career to date. He will discuss the breeding and production of potential top-level event horses for the future.

Also added to the line-up is well known Wicklow veterinary surgeon Larry Dunne who will discuss equine reproduction, retaining pregnancies in mares and embryo transfer.

The event will address breeding, training, management and preparation of competition horses and riders for optimum performance in competition.

Speakers announced earlier include Rob Ehrens, chef d’equipe to the Dutch senior show jumping team, and Russell Guire of Centaur Biomechanics.

Rob Ehrens is one of the most highly respected coaches in international show jumping. He has been chef d’equipe to the Dutch senior show jumping team for the last 13 years. In the last five years, his riders have won 11 team and individual medals at World and European Championship level. A talented rider, Ehrens won the Calgary Grand Prix in 1980 as well as a World Cup Qualifier in Hertogenbosch. He was part of five European Championship teams as well as being a two-time Olympian.

Russell Guire founded Centaur Biomechanics in 2006, a company which specialises in horse and rider performance analysis. For the last 10 years, he has worked with the British Equestrian Federation (BEF), assisting riders on both the World Class Programme and Team GB.

Guire provides video and biomechanical analysis to all disciplines – dressage, show jumping, eventing and para equestrian dressage. More recently he has been investigating the effect that different saddles have on the horse and the interaction that the rider has with the horse’s movement and soundness.
