THE Board of Kilkenny SPCA called for information this week on the drowning of a horse in the Nore river, following an outcry on social medial. A SPCA spokesperson said: “No member of the public contacted us directly in relation to this incident, three calls were logged at 13.47pm, 13.50 and 14.22 but no messages were left. All recorded messages are automatically transferred to our officers mobile number in real time. We were first made aware by a local Vet at 14.41pm and were given the contact details of a person present at the incident, we contacted this person at 14.49pm and gave advice over the phone, and informed that person that a vet was in transit to the incident. Our Welfare Officer was not in Co Kilkenny at the time to assist. The vet returned a call at 15.40pm to advise us that the animal had died. We then contacted Kilkenny County Council at 16.04pm and advised them of a body of a horse on the Linear Walk.”

The Society is appealing to witnesses to the incident to contact them in confidence on 056 7771635 with any information.
