Two five-star wins for Butler in Gijon

MEATH’s Alexander Butler won both 1.40m classes on Wednesday and Thursday at the five-star Nations Cup show in Gijon, Spain, aboard Jessie Drea’s 11-year-old gelding Dekato. Butler was also part of the Irish team that finished fourth on Friday afternoon at the venue. Full reports from Gijon in next week’s paper.

Cavan Equestrian three-day show

CAVAN Equestrian Centre is hosting its three-day Autumn Horse Championships this weekend (Friday, August 30th-Sunday, September 1st). Cavan’s September Elite Foal Sale at Cavan’s Indoor Championships Show is on Thursday, September 19th next.

John Connolly RIP

JOHN Connolly of Copper Alley Stud in Maynooth, Co Kildare, was laid to rest on Wednesday afternoon last. The Mayo native sadly passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday. His loss is deeply regretted by his loving wife Margaret, sons and daughters Karen, Siobhan, Thomas, Sandra, John and Ailish, son-in-law, daughters-in-law, nine grandchildren, sisters Peg and Mary, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. An obituary will appear at a later date. May he rest in peace.

Eight yellow cards at Pan Am Games

A TOTAL of eight yellow cards and one recorded warning were handed out by the FEI during the eventing competition at the Pan American Games in Peru recently. The sanctions, handed out to seven of the 12 competing nations, were all given during the cross-country phase.
