Bridget Doyle: sad loss of matriarch of Irish show jumping

ONE of the most influential families in Irish show jumping, the Doyles of Punchestown House, Rathmore, Co Kildare, paid tribute to Bridget Doyle who passed away peacefully in Craddock House Nursing Home, Naas, surrounded by her family last Saturday.

Bridget was the loving wife of the late Ned and the mother of Jack, Mary, Anna, Patrick, Edward, Paul, Richard, and Seamus. She will be dearly missed by her sister Pat Nolan, her grandchildren and extended family and relatives.

Alongside her husband Ned, who passed away in 2017, the couple played a pivotal role in Showjumping Ireland.

Making the move from Clondalkin in the 1960s, Ned and Brigid successfully built up their farm in Rathmore and it was there that the family’s true love of show jumping developed. Their sons, daughters and grandchildren, all became part of that journey with Jack and Edward becoming household names in show jumping.

Bridget, who was known for her kindness and zest for life, enjoyed many show days watching her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews compete in arenas across Ireland.

There was always a seat at Bridget’s table and many will remember her kindness at every show, whereby a full picnic was always produced from the back of the car.

Many show jumpers and industry figures availed of the hospitality offered at Rathmore House and the kindness that was extended will be remembered by many.
