GREG Broderick’s Ballypatrick Stables extended their enterprise this week when purchasing the 217-acre residential farm at Fortwilliam House, in Borrisoleigh, Co Tipperary, for €2.2 million at public auction.
The biggest piece of land offered for sale in Tipperary so far this year, the dry-stock farm was purchased by the Thurles-based show jumper in its entire, which includes the beautiful old Fortwilliam House, a protected structure dating back to the 1920s, and extending to over 6,000 square feet with no less than 22 rooms.

Fortwilliam was signalled out as one of the finest holdings offered for sale in the area in recent times, and located just 10 minutes from Ballypatrick Stables, it is considered a big scoop for the Olympic show jumper, who runs a huge breeding operation alongside his show jumping business.
Commenting on the purchase, Broderick said: “It is so beneficial to my business of producing horses to have a holding of this size on my doorstep. It is only two miles from my facilities at Ballypatrick. I love this area, I love the land and the house, and I can see great potential here.”
Broderick also recently revealed plans for a substantial extension to his Thurles stables, sharing plans for a new state-of-the-art 16-stable barn, a viewing area overlooking the recently constructed indoor arena, a bar and offices.
Fortwilliam House went to public auction last Wednesday, June 7th, in the Anner Hotel, Thurles, and although it was offered in separate lots, the hammer fell for the entire at €2.2 million.
