Almost €3 million allocated to animal welfare charities by DAFM
ALMOST €3 million was allocated in funding by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) in 2019 to 106 animal welfare charity organisations nationwide.
The Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA) and the DSPCA in Rathfarnham, Dublin 16, both received sums of €485,000. The ISPCA’s National Animal Centre at Longford was allocated €485,000 while the ISPCA Equine Rescue Centre in Mallow, Co Cork, received €30,000.
The Irish Blue Cross received €220,000 while The Donkey Sanctuary at Liscarroll, Mallow, was allocated €155,000. Based in Newtownforbes, Co Longford, Hungry Horse Outside was allocated €75,000 – the same amount given to The Irish Horse Welfare Trust, in Woodenbridge, Arklow.
Limerick Animal Welfare, Kilfinance, Co Limerick, received €63,000 while PAWS Animal Rescue, Mullinahone, Co Tipperary received €45,000. The Enfield-based My Lovely Horse Rescue received €19,000 while the Irish Horse Rehoming Programme at Cloneygowan, Co Offaly, received €9,000.
Forgotten Horses Ireland in Co Galway, was allocated €7,500. Cappanagarrane Horse Rescue in Mullinahone, Co Tipperary, received €6,000 while The North Mayo Horse Sanctuary was allocated €5,000 by the department.
