Dermott Lennon had his best results yet in the Atlantic Tour at Vilamoura, Portugal last weekend, winning his opening class with Loughview Lou-Lou and following it up with a Grand Prix victory on Sunday.

In last Friday’s 1.45m two-phase opener, Lennon and the Irish Sport Horse mare zipped around clear to finish in 29.83 seconds, ahead of their nearest rivals, Julien Gonn and Qaurtz De Preuilly from France, who finished in 29.94.

The 12-year-old bay mare is by Limmerick, out of Loughview Diamond Lucy and was bred by her owner, Judith Sossick from Co Antrim.

Loughview Lou-Lou showed her class in the Grand Prix on Sunday by finishing clear in 46.03, ahead of the French combination of Fiona Versini and Kassandre Erger, who finished in 47.53. Mark Martens and Anastacia of The Netherlands were the only other clear round in the jump-off.

Trevor Breen finished just outside the top 10 in the Grand Prix with Adventure De Kannan.

Lennon’s other Irish Sport Horses also placed on Sunday. Clinton Jack (by Clinton), finished seventh in the 1.35m accumulator on the same day, while Derryinver Luxury Cruise was eighth in the 1.40m against the clock.

It was in this 1.40m class that Michael Duffy recorded one of his many places at Vilamoura. Riding Widny, the young rider put it up to Laura Renwick but in the end had to settle for second place. Renwick and Beluga finished clear in 54.95, while Duffy and Widny finished in 57.26. David Simpson and Arantos finished fourth in 58.17.

Duffy’s best result from a very busy weekend at Vilamoura was a one-two in the 1.40m Table A class against the clock. Again riding the Dutch Warmblood stallion Widny, Duffy went clear in 37.65, befor slotting into second place with the Belgian Warmllod mare Shahenaz in 40.04.

On the same day, he finished fourth in the 1.45m against the clock with the Irish Sport Horse gelding Touch of Chilli and took 10th spot in the 1.35m two-phase with Ikantook Van Bost Z.

Earlier in the week, he finished fourth in the seven-year-old class with Townhead Lakita R, ninth in the six-year-old class with Duco and seventh in the five-year-old class with Elite Patty K.

Last Friday’s 1.40m Table A against the clock also featured Duffy, this time riding Shahenaz to fifth prize. David Simpson and Global Van T Braunerthoi was one place behind Duffy in sixth, while Trevor Breen and the Irish Sport Horse Master Daragh slotted into ninth.

Breen had earlier in the week ridden Hello Vivendi (ISH) to ninth place in the five-year-old class. Darragh McCarthy and Neal Fearon both featured in the 1.30m two-phase class on Friday, McCarthy beaten into second place on Whisper S by French rider Morgan Bordat. Fearon finished sixth with the Holstein WKD Tokyo.

Ronan McLaughlin and the Heartbreaker gelding Cornelis II finished 10th in the 1.30m class on the final day of the show.

Meanwhile, Shiekh Samir Mirdad racked up five wins and two places throughout the show. In Friday, he won the 1.10m with Uraeus and took tenth with Mirdads Sheeefff, as well as winning the 1.20m with Mirdads Hubbb Alrahmaan.

Saturday saw Mirdad take a one-two in the 1.10m. Uraeus won this class, going clear in 31.35, with Mirdads Sheeefff second in 31.48.

Mirdads Sheeefff again featured on Sunday, winning the 1.10m ahead of Belgium’s Olivia Gent and Belgium T, while Mirdads Hubbb Alrahmaan won the 1.20m ahead of Charles Luyckx and Pepito D’Airsan in second.
