COMDT. John Ledingham will put his hat into the ring for Ireland’s top show jumping chef d’equipe job when it is advertised.

Cork’s Robert Splaine has spent 12 years in the demanding job, during which time Ireland captured multiple Nations Cup wins including Aga Khan Trophy victories.

Speculation abounds as to who else might now be in the frame for the job. The Irish Field asked John Ledingham was he interested in it.

“When it is advertised, I’ll be applying for it,” confirmed Comdt. Ledingham in reply.

Ledingham (58) spent 25 years with the Army Equitation School. In recent years, he played a key role with Ireland’s under-age squads, including guiding the Irish young rider team to a gold medal in the European Championships at Millstreet this summer, assisted by Showjumping Ireland’s Michael Blake.

Winner of the Horse Sport Ireland 2015 Coach of the Year award as chef d’equipe to the children on horses, junior and young rider teams, who took home individual gold, team silver and team bronze medals respectively at the 2015 European Championships, Ledingham also managed the Irish Sport Horse Studbook Team at the World Breeding Jumping Championships for Young Horses at Lanaken, Belgium, in 2015 and 2016, where Irish horses and riders took home gold, silver and bronze medals.
