Moloney win

RICHIE Moloney and Ypaja Yando took home top honors in the opening $35,000 Horseware Ireland CSI*** in the final week of the 2016 Tyron Fall Series. Moloney and the nine-year-old Ypaja Yando, owned by Equinimity LLC, stopped the timers with an impressive time of 57.61 seconds, while Mexico’s Eugenio Garza and Bariano secured second place with a time of 59.39 seconds.

Meanwhile in Washington DC, Cork’s Shane Sweetnam finished second in the opening $10,000 international speed class at the four-star show. Sweetnam guided Main Road, owned by Sweet Oak Farm and Seabrook LLC, to a clear road in 50.26 seconds. The winner was USA’s Andrew Kocher and Uppie des Lis (50.20).

H&M All In

PEDER Fredricson’s Rio silver medalist H&M All In underwent successful colic surgery in Malmo, Sweden, last week. The 10-year-old by Kashmir van Schuttershof had been experiencing repeated colic attacks over a short period of time. The horse is expected to take a break from the sport while he recovers.

Swedish chef d’equipe

HENRIK Ankarcrona will take up his new post as Swedish chef d’equipe on November 1st. The 37-year-old has represented Sweden at five-star level and takes over from Sylve Söderstrand, who helped Sweden to a team silver at the 2004 Olympic Games.

Contoversary surrounded Söderstrand in April of this year when he was allegedly fired from the chef d’equipe position. However, he was reinstated as head coach for the Rio Olympics, where Peder Fredricson won an individual silver medal.

Cross-country clinic

CROSSOGUE Equestrian in Thurles, Co Tipperary, are holding a cross-country competition on Saturday, November 12th at 9am. The classes include a novice and pre-novice competiton for both singles and pairs, and a side saddle class.

Allen on form

BERTRAM Allen got off to a winning start at the Horse and Friends Event in Sentowerpark, Opglabbeek, Belgium winning the seven-year-old CSIYH* with Christy JNR.

Allen guided the Indoctro-sired gelding to the quickest clear round in 26.29 seconds to claim victory in the class.

Howley’s victory

SLIGO show jumper Richard Howley claimed victory in both Wednesday’s and Thursday’s seven-year-old classes at CSI** Mijas in Spain.

Riding Hayley Harrison’s Carpe Diem Z, Howley was the quickest double clear round in 37.67 seconds in Wednesday’s opening young horse class.

His second win came on Thursday aboard Epke, a seven-year-old by Verdi, when he finished fastest in 59.99 seconds.

Howley took third place in the 1.40m speed class at the Spainish tour aboard Neal Robinson’s Calmond when clear in 60.22 seconds behind British winner Max Routledge with Carus Royale (0/56.50).
