Liverpool winners

CONGRATULATIONS to the winners of the silver family tickets (for four people) for the Liverpool International Horse Show, taking place from December 31st-January 2nd at the city’s Echo Arena. Cork horse fairs

NO written submissions have yet been received over proposed radical changes to Cork bye-laws relating to horse fairs, according to MacDara O’Hici of Cork County Council. People are reminded that only written submissions can be considered. Anyone can make a submission and all submissions must be considered by Council members. Public submissions are open for another two weeks from the December 16th deadline and must be made to the Director of Corporate Services, Floor 14, County Hall, Cork. Envelopes must be marked Submission on Draft Casual Trading Bye-Laws.

Big Star injured

NICK Skelton’s Olympic champion Big Star was withdrawn from this weekend’s CHI Geneva due to a sprained fetlock. The 13-year-old stallion will be out for up to six weeks which means he will also miss the London Olympia Horse Show next week. However, Big Star is still in light work and is expected to make an appearance at the London show for the parade of Olympic medallists next Friday, December 16th.

Cavan Christmas

CAVAN Equestrian Centre’s two-day Derby and Grand Prix pony show takes place today (Saturday) and tomorrow (Sunday). Classes start at 9am on both days and there will be a special prize for the best Christmas themed fancy dress rider on Sunday, plus 20% off in Cladem Equi Store all weekend.

Showjumpers Awards

THE annual National Showjumping Awards Gala takes place tonight (Saturday) in Killashee House Hotel, Naas, Co Kildare. This year’s event is supporting a very worthy cause, Samaritan Ireland, a charity providing help struggling to cope or at risk of suicide. The awards kick off at 6.30pm with a welcome reception, followed by dinner and the awards presentations, including the International Rider of the Year.
