Nat Galway-Greer
YOUNGER readers perusing last Saturday’s tribute to Frances Cash may have wondered at the name of Nat Galway-Greer who dominated the ridden show hunter section at the RDS between the years 1947 and 1966.
Contrary to what was stated last week, Galway-Greer holds the record at owning 10 supreme champions, starting with the six-year-old heavyweight Mighty Fine and ending with the well-named four-year-old Never Forget, a son of Blue Cliff.
Apart from the supreme champions, he had many other winners of the weight titles and between ridden horses, youngstock and broodmares, claimed 45 cups in total. Graduates of Galway-Greer’s Meath yard went on to further show ring success, mainly in Britain, but some of the thoroughbreds won on the racecourse.
