Dressage moves

GISELA Holstein has resigned as long serving chair of the Dressage Ireland Judges Committee. A founding member of Dressage Ireland, Holstien has, since its inception, been involved with judges training and exams. She has been replaced by Dermot Cannon, who was elected to the chair of the Judges Committee by acclamation. Cannon is a DI List 2 and BD List 3A judge and is deeply involved with all aspects of dressage judging.

Athlone Show

The annual show will include a side saddle working hunter class and an Irish Draught championship

Athlone Agri Show’s equine section committee will host a fundraising evening on April 9th in The Planet, Athlone at 7pm.

Open to all, the event will feature a fun team competition for teams of four at a cost of €40. For more information, contact Gillian on 086-8521575. This year Athlone Show will run on June 26th and, in addition to the usual packed schedule, will include a side saddle working hunter class.

The show will also host the Midland Irish Draught mare and foal championship with a prize fund of €1,500. A full schedule will be available in the coming weeks.

Irish Draught

THE Laois branch of the Irish Draught Horse Breeders Association has been forced to postpone the Irish Draught one-day event due to run this Sunday, April 3rd, due to ground conditions and the bad weather forecast. The event has been rescheduled to run on Sunday, May 8th.

Ward Union

The Ward Union Hunter Trials at Malahow will now take place on Saturday, April 16th at 10am.

Competitions will begin at 10am with open singles and pairs, followed by pre-novice/lead rein, parent and child (over the novice course) and lastly the novice pairs and novice singles. The course can be walked and entries taken on Friday at 4-8pm.

HSI coaching

The latest HSI Level 1 Apprentice Coach course is scheduled to begin on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 5th and 6th at The Paddocks Equestrian Centre, Midleton, Co Cork. This is a four-day course in total and split into two parts, with the second two training days set to take place in July. Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis.
